Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Bud Denega
SPOKANE, Washington (9/3/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team probably feels as though it earned more than one goal Thursday at Luger Field. But one was all it took to secure a victory.

The Cowgirls defeated Gonzaga, 1-0, to improve to 4-2-0 on the season. The Bulldogs fall to 2-4-1 on the year.

"Overall, I'm pretty pleased," head coach Josh Purdum said. "We've gotten scored on multiple times here in the last couple of games, so we wanted to get back to our defensive principles, and we did that tonight. They're a very athletic team and to keep them off the board is quite an accomplishment."

The game's lone goal occurred in the 76th minute. Maddie Burr sent a dangerous corner kick into the box, and the Bulldogs couldn't clear it for an own goal.

The score was earned in the sense that the Cowgirls had consistent pressure and numerous opportunities to score off their own foot during the first 75 minutes. Wyoming fired 11 of its 17 shots in the second half and ended the game with a 17-12 advantage in shots.

"It's one of those things when you have been creating chances, it puts a lot of pressure on a team," Purdum said. "We had so much momentum going our way at that moment. When you get a team to adjust to you, good things happen."

Alyssa Glover enjoyed a game-high six shots. Jennah Wanner and Izzy Schroder also had multiple shots with two apiece.

Wyoming keeper, Haley Bartel, turned away a season-high seven shots for her third shutout of 2026. It was also her 21st career clean sheet, as she creates distance on the school record she set early this year.

Bartel's counterpart, Sydney Head, logged six saves. Shila Rasoul recorded a team-high four shots for Gonzaga.

The Pokes remain on the road over the weekend. They travel to Eastern Washington on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kick at the EWU Soccer Field.
