LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 29, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowgirls will hit the road for the first time during Mountain West play this week as they make a trip to California for a pair of matches at San Jose State. The Cowgirls and Spartans face off at 7 p.m., Mountain Time on Thursday and at 2 p.m., Saturday.

Wyoming (7-6, 0-2 MW) is looking to bounce back after dropping its first two in league play at home to preseason Mountain West favorite, UTEP last week. In Saturday's loss to the Miners, Paige Lauterwasser became the latest member of the 1,000-Kills Club in program history with her fourth set kill. Lauterwasser now has 1,001 career kills and continues to lead UW with 2.58 kills per set.

The Cowgirls rank in the top-half of the conference so far in 2026 in service aces per set (1.42), team blocks per (2.02) and team hitting percentage (.205). Individually, Rylee Heinz has been solid in her first campaign with the Brown & Gold. The freshman's 2.02 kills per set ranks third on the team while her .346 hitting percentage ranks fifth best in the MW. Heinz also ranks sixth in the conference averaging 0.98 blocks per set. Rya Fingerlin's 3.36 digs per set ranks sixth in the league while Peyton Carruth paces the Cowgirls and also ranks sixth in the MW averaging 0.33 service aces per set.

UW is 1-1 in true road matches this season and won its last contest on the road, sweeping Idaho State at the Black & Orange Classic.

San Jose State is 5-8 on the season and opened Mountain West play 0-2 at Air Force the opening weekend of conference play. Tatiana Robinson's .315 hitting percentage ranks ninth in the league while Learden Lee's 0.86 blocks per set ranks eighth in the MW. Zuzana Kosikova ranks third in the league averaging 0.41 service aces per set. Kosikova also leads San Jose with 100 kills this season. As a team, SJSU ranks fourth in the Mountain West with a team hitting percentage of .215, the Spartans also rank fourth in team blocks per set (2.08). San Jose State ranks fourth in the league and fifth, respectively, averaging 11.37 assists and 12.31 kills per set. The Spartans are 3-1 at home this season.
