LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 26, 2026) – Paige Lauterwasser became the newest member of the 1,000-Point Club in program history Saturday night as the Wyoming Cowgirls lost in four sets to UTEP. The Cowgirls lost 25-21, 25-22, 24-26 and 25-16.
Lauterwasser, who entered the night 11 kills shy of the 1,000-kill milestone, led the Cowgirls with 12 kills on the night. Lauterwasser also recorded a double-double as she tallied 10 digs in the loss. Rylee Heinz and Abi Milby added seven kills each. Milby, who hit .417, recorded a season-high with those seven kills. Heinz, meanwhile, led the UW defense with four total blocks against the Miners.
Maddy Stucky led the Cowgirls' two-setter offense with 17 assists on the night and also recorded a career-high four service aces. Wyoming was strong as a team at the service line Saturday, which in large part, helped it win the third set. The Cowgirls tallied eight service aces on the night. Addy Thorington also had a career-best in aces, as she tallied three.
Sara Quigley had 13 assists in the loss and added seven digs. Rya Fingerlin paced Wyoming on the night with 11 digs from her libero position. Peyton Carruth, who had UW's other ace, added five digs off the bench.
Wyoming was held to just a .100 team hitting percentage on the night while UTEP hit .283 in the contest. The Miners had a huge advantage at the net defensively, as their block gave the Cowgirls fits all night. UTEP held a 15-7 team blocking advantage Saturday.
The Cowgirls now look to bounce back in beginning portions of Mountain West play. UW will hit the road for the first time in conference play next week with a trip to California to face San Jose State Thursday, October 1 and Oct. 3.
