LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 21, 2026) – Head coach Sundance Wicks and the Wyoming Cowboys officially opened the 2026-27 season on Monday with a late morning practice inside the Arena-Auditorium. The Pokes will open their exhibition schedule with a trip to Gillette, Wyo., as UW will take on Northern Colorado in the Pronghorn Center on October 11 at 2 p.m.

"This is the stacking day's part we are in right now," UW head coach Sundance Wicks said. "Every offseason is areas of growth we need to see in our program. Our goal is to become a top-75 defense and what adjustments we have to make, and we want to shrink the gaps and protect the paint. We are getting bigger and a little and more physical."
 
Wyoming welcomes back a pair of starters in guards Nasir (Naz) Meyer and Khaden Bennett. Meyer averaged 12.9 points per game last season with Bennett adding 10.2 points per night. Both led the team adding 4.9 rebounds per game.
 
The Pokes also have a pair of key contributors returning in forward Gavin Gores and guard Uriyah Rojas along with redshirt forward Neil Summers. Gores added 7.3 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. Rojas added 6.2 points per game and 1.7 helpers per night.
 
Wyoming also welcomes 10 newcomers to the roster, which includes six transfers along with four high school players and one international player.
 
Wyoming returns over 45% of its scoring and 40% of its rebounding from four returners.
Wyoming won 18 games last season and made the National Invitation Tournament for the first postseason action for the Brown and Gold since 2021-22. It was also the first time Wyoming has played in the NIT since 2003.
 
Cowboy basketball season ticket renewals are now available for the 2026-27 season. Head Coach Sundance Wicks and the Cowboys are set to "Run It Back" with an exciting lineup of returners that led the Pokes return to the postseason. That group of five players will be joined by a talented group of newcomers that will help the Brown and Gold battle for a Mountain West crown.
