POCATELLO, Idaho (Sept. 18, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowgirls made it a quick night Friday at Idaho State as the Cowgirls topped the Bengals in straight-sets to win their second match of the Idaho State Orange & Black Classic. Set scores went 25-19, 25-21 and 25-22 in the sweep.
Wyoming (6-4) found its advantage on the night at the service line, as tough serving all night from the Cowgirls kept Idaho State (8-3) on its heels. Both teams had six service aces in the contest, but UW's service kept the Bengals out of system at pivotal points all match.
The Cowgirls came out firing in the first, only trailing once in the set, at 2-1 and led by as many as seven, twice in the opening set to take an early lead on the night. In the second, Idaho State seemed to be well in control, leading later in the frame, 17-11. However, from there, Wyoming finished the set with a 14-4 run and scored the final seven points of the set to take command of the match. In the third, UW jumped out to an early lead thanks to its serving and never trailed in the third. The Bengals would fight back though, tying the set late at 21-21 and 22-22. The Cowgirls would close-out the match with the final three points to come away with the sweep.
UW's middle blockers provided the most firepower Friday night as Rylee Heinz and Anna Williams recorded 11 and nine kills, respectively. William's nine kills are a career-best for her while she hit .615 in the win. Heinz hit .409 and was tied for the team lead along with Emma Winter, recording three total blocks.
Paige Lauterwasser added nine kills of her own against the Bengals while Winter added seven. Emerson Macias and Reagan Sharp had six and five, respectively. In the back row, Rya Finglerin's 19 digs are a career-high for her. Peyton Carruth and Lauterwasser tallied 10 digs each.
Sara Quigley led the way with 22 assists on the night to go along with two kills. Quigley, along with fellow setter, Maddy Stucky, led the Cowgirls with two service aces each. Stucky added 17 assists in the win.
Wyoming hit .242 in the sweep, including .415 in the third set. Idaho State hit just .133. The Bengals did out-block the Cowgirls, 8-5. The Cowgirls held a 60-47 advantage in digs on the night. Idaho State entered Friday leading the nation in digs per set as a team, with 17.92. The Bengals tallied just 15.7 in the match.
Next up, UW closes the Orange & Black Classic Saturday morning with an 11 a.m., match against Pacific.
