LARAMIE, Wyo.  (July 22, 2026) – University of Wyoming Athletics is mourning the loss of Dr. Kurt Johnson, who served as Medical Director for UW Athletics since 2023. Johnson passed away from a sudden illness.

"The entire Wyoming Athletics family was saddened by the loss of Dr. Johnson," UW Director of Athletics Tom Burman said, "He was a very respected and loved member of our staff, and his loss will be felt by his colleagues and the many past and present student-athletes that he cared for during his time at UW. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Dr. Johnson was a beloved member of the UW Athletics team, providing expert, compassionate care for student-athletes, coaches and others. A graduate of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, he joined UW as Medical Director in July 2023.
No funeral or memorial arrangements have yet been announced.
