FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (May 27, 2026) – Senior
Cam Burkett finished his collegiate shot-put career in 16th at the NCAA West First Round at John McDonnell Field, Wednesday.
Burkett entered the day with the 17th-best throw in the nation and just off a Mountain West title in the shot put. Throwing sixth in flight four, Burkett began his day with a respectable mark of 17.77 meters (58-3 ¾).
On his second attempt, he jumped up to 13th with a put of 18.38 meters (60-3 ¾). Burkett would need a mark closer to his MW winning throw of 19.19 meters on his third attempt to finish in the Top 12 and move on to Eugene, Ore.
Burkett's final attempt fell at 17.83 meters (58-6), leaving him out of 12th place and ultimately closing his meet in 16th with his mark of 18.38 meters.
The Casper, Wyo., native closed his Wyoming career with a personal best of 19.34 meters (63-5 ½). He holds the No. 3 indoor shot put and No. 4 outdoor shot put in school history. Over his four-year career, he was named to four All-Mountain West teams and won the 2026 outdoor MW shot put title.
