Three School Records Cap Day One at the MW Championships

RENO, Nev. (Feb. 26, 2026) – Three distance records fell to open the first day of the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, Thursday, in Reno, Nev.

COWGIRLS
Wyoming kicked off the MW Championship with two Cowgirls, sophomore Avery Navest and freshman Desirae Iacovetto, in the pentathlon. Iacovetto finished in 15th with 3,252 points while Navest took 17th with 2,690 points. With over 3,500 points, Iacovetto, from Wheatland, Wyo., moves to No. 2 in program history in the pentathlon.

Iacovetto peaked with a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.77, a personal best. She took 10th in the shot put at 10.48 meters, 14th in the long jump at 5.15 meters, 15th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.51 meters for a personal best and closed the 800 meters in 16th at 2:46.68, also a PR.

Navest's best event finish came in the shot put where she took sixth with a throw of 11.69 meters. She wouldn't finish the pentathlon and settle for four events before bowing out in the 800 meters. She 14th in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.16, 11th in the high jump at 1.54 meters and jumped to 17th at 4.80 meters in the long jump.

On the track, sophomore Taliah Morris led the way in the 200 meters. She would finish 21st and cross the line at 24.53. Sophomore Madeline Thorne would follow, coming in 27th with a time of 24.98.

Junior Eowyn Dalbec broke the school record and placed fifth in the 5,000 meters for four team points. She would cross the line at 16:32.36, 16:10.29, after altitude conversions. Dalbec held the No. 2 time this season before breaking the 11-year-old record.

Senior Marina Trave finished next for Wyoming with her 12th-place finish of 16:58.36. This is also a personal best for the graduate student and No. 6 time in program history.

The Distance Medley Relay closed the night for the Cowgirls and set a Top 10 program time. The crew of junior Hailey Uhre, sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina, sophomore Julia Rudolph and sophomore Muriel Jones finished the 4,000-meter relay with a time of 11:50.30 (11:41.17 with conversions) for No. 4 all-time in Wyoming history. They added three points for Wyoming in the team standings.

COWBOYS
The Cowboys saw one Poke advance in the 200-meter dash. Junior Gavin Cougle ran to fifth overall at 21.18, a personal best and only 0.01 seconds off the school record. He will now run in Saturday's final.

Freshmen Ryan Elsen and Chance Morris rounded out Wyoming in the event with a 15th and 16th place finishes, respectively. Elsen crossed the line at 21.75 while Morris finished at 21.85.

Senior Jacob White made his way onto the podium with his school-record-breaking time in the 5,000 meters. He would run to second with a time of 13:44.84, 13:26.50 after conversions, to smash his previous record of 13:32.97. White picked up eight points for the Pokes.

Also in the event, senior Ryker Holtzen grabbed 10th with a time of 14:13.72, 13:54.73 with conversions.

Like the Cowgirls, the men closed the night in the DMR. The Cowboy team of senior Dylan van der Hock, senior Darius Wiggins, senior Tristan Knueppel and sophomore transfer Solomon Holden-Betts ran to fifth with a time of 9:50.08. With altitude conversions, a time of 9:42.49 is the new school record. The relay gained four team points for the Cowboys.

UP NEXT
Action will continue tomorrow with the women's weight throw at 12:30 p.m. MT, with the track opening up at 4:30 p.m. MT.
