WOODLAND, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2026) – Senior
Alex Metzler was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Male Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
At the DU First Chance, Metzler, a transfer from Ohio State, broke three pool records and swam three Top 10 program times. In the 200-yard Free he swam a time of 1:34.62 for No. 4 in school history and added the No. 8 time in the 200-yard Fly at 1:45.77 on day one. Day two, Metzler wrapped his second meet as a Poke with another pool record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:46.10 for No. 4 in program history.
Metzler joined the Cowboys following a two-year career at Ohio State, where he was named CSCAA NIC Athlete of the Year, All-Big Ten Second Team in 2024 and earned a silver medal in the 800-yard Free Relay at the Big Ten Championships. Prior to his time in Columbus, Metzler was named the NJCAA National Men's Swimmer of the Year at Southwestern Oregon Community College.
Metzler becomes the third Cowboy to win the award this season, joining freshman
Jackson Kogler (Dec. 23) and sophomore
Isaac Lee (Oct. 21). He is also the sixth Wyoming student-athlete to win the weekly award from the MPSF.
