LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 5, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowgirls opened their four-match homestand Thursday night with a four-set loss to UNLV. Set scores went 20-25, 28-26, 25-22 and 25-16.
The Cowgirls (12-12, 5-8 MW) came out on fire to open the match, posting an early 11-2 lead and then kept the Rebels at bay to take an early lead on the night. In the second, it was a back-and-forth affair, but UNLV was able to withstand a Wyoming rally late to take the set in extended points. Service errors proved to be the downfall for the Cowgirls in the second set. In the third, UW held a 21-20 lead, but the Rebels were able to take five of the next six points to close out the frame and take the lead in the match. The fourth, meanwhile, was all Rebels as they closed out the contest with a convincing set four victory.
Wyoming hit .285 on the night and hit at least .333 in the first three sets, before hitting just .086 in the fourth. UNLV hit .308 in the contest and improved its hitting efficiency in each set. The Rebels also enjoyed a 7-4 advantage in service aces and had an 11-9 edge in team blocks. UNLV also committed just four serving errors to the Cowgirls' 10.
Paige Lauterwasser was once again sensational in the loss, recording 20 kills on the night. It is the second consecutive match and the third time in the last four matches Lauterwasser has recorded 20-plus kills. Emma Winter added 13 and had three block assists. Addy Thorington also finished in double figures with 10 and hit .276.
Defensively, Peyton Carruth led Wyoming with 10 digs, while at the net, Anna Williams led the Cowgirls with six total blocks. Ruby Jensen added three to go along with nine kills while hitting .389. Sara Quigley, meanwhile, was one dig shy of a double-double and tallied 48 assists in the loss.
The Cowgirls and Rebels will play the second match of their series Saturday afternoon in Laramie. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
