LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/18/26) – A little blip of momentum right before half blossomed into an entire wave of it for the University of Wyoming soccer team on Sunday. The Cowgirls discovered something in the waning moments of the opening half and implemented it full on in the second half en route to a 2-0 win over UTEP at the Madrid Sports Complex.
"We finished the half with some good energy and had some momentum towards goal, and that's what we commented on at halftime," head coach
Josh Purdum said. "As long as we matched that, we'd set ourselves up for some success. We got end line a couple times, got a corner, had a shot on goal and the momentum was ours the rest of the match."
The win improves the Pokes to 11-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 (13 points) in Mountain West Conference play. The loss drops the Miners to 8-4-3 on the year and 2-4-0 (6 points) in league action.
The contest's first score was put in motion by
Alyssa Glover. She sent in a corner that found
Lauren Westwood's head in the 57th minute. It was Westwood's second goal of the season.
Glover would play a role in the match's final goal, as well. She and
Isabel Vasco recorded assists on
Kiley Ballek's 82nd-minute goal. It was Ballek's first score of the season, which now gives Wyoming 12 different goal scorers this season.
The second assist also gives Glover 68 career points. That's just one shy of the program record.
Goalkeeper,
Haley Bartel, keeps adding to her already established school record. She boasted her eighth shutout of 2026, turning away six shots by the Miners. Bartel has 26 career clean sheets, seven clear of second best.
It was a pretty level match, as the Pokes held a 15-13 advantage in shots. Eleven different players record a shot for Wyoming.
UTEP keeper, Savanah Finley, entered Sunday with a conference-best GAA. Her stat line took a couple of hits as she surrendered the two goals with six saves.
The Cowgirls hit the road next weekend. They take on Colorado College on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Stewart Field.
