LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/15/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team had a bit of a quirky Thursday match against New Mexico. An overnight snowstorm forced the teams to push kickoff back four and a half hours and into the Indoor Practice Facility.
The end result was a weird 1-1 draw. The result pushes the Cowgirls to 10-3-1 on the season and 3-1-1 (10 points) in Mountain West Conference play, while the Lobos move to 6-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in league.
"It's a fair result, to be honest," head coach
Josh Purdum said. "Both teams were pretty aggressive in the attack and sharp defensively. There were a lot of good battles in the middle of the field. With the spacing of the field being tight, you will see more direct play, and both teams did well to adjust to each other. It's a fair result."
Erin Dahl got the Pokes on the board early. She netted her second score of the season, firing one in from distance during the 15th minute.
The lead held until the final 80 seconds. Celina Frenz took a pass from Presley Devey and knotted the match up in the 89th minute.
Wyoming goalkeeper,
Haley Bartel, turned away seven shots on the night. Her counterpart, Alyson Campbell, made five saves.
To Purdum's point, it was a very level game with both sides recording 13 shots. Eight of the Lobos' shots were on frame while six were on target for the Pokes.
Isabel Vasco paced Wyoming with a trio of shots.
The Cowgirls remain at home this weekend. They'll return to the Madrid Sports Complex for a 1 p.m. match against UTEP.
