Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Bud Denega
ATHENS, Georgia (9/4/25) – The clock had struck midnight Thursday, but there was no thwarting the University of Wyoming soccer team's Cinderella story at the Tunner Soccer Complex. The Cowgirls blanked No. 15 Georgia, 1-0, for their first-ever ranked road win in program history.

"I'm really happy with the heart and discipline defensively," head coach Josh Purdum said. "That's a Georgia group that's up there in the country in terms of goals scored, and that's a group that's ranked. It takes a lot of discipline, and we didn't ever lose confidence within the game."

The win improves Wyoming to 3-1-1 on the season. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-2-1 on the year.

The match didn't start at its scheduled 6:30 p.m. EST kick time. It was delayed 3.5 hours because of weather, however, that didn't keep Wyoming from getting off to a hot start.

Alyssa Glover scored off a feed from Addison Keen in the 11th minute. It was Glover's fourth goal of the season and her fourth straight match with a score.

"G allows us to play a certain style that can be aggressive on the attack all the time, but most importantly too – and it's what we are building our identity on – is what she gives us defensively," Purdum said. "We know she can score goals, and she needs players around her in order to do that, which she has. G is aggressive and therefore the rest of the team can be aggressive."

Thursday was similar to the Pokes' most-recent game this past Sunday at power-four Colorado. Glover scored quickly – in the first minute off a pass from Jennah Wanner – to stake her team to the early advantage.

But that's where the similarities between the two matches stopped. Unlike in Boulder, the Cowgirls held the Bulldogs off the scoreboard with a tremendous effort in net from goalkeeper, Haley Bartel.

Bartel logged her third shutout of the season and 13th of her career. She did so with six saves and a back line that stood tall time and time again even without starter, Raegan Richardson, who didn't play because of injury.

"This was probably Hobbs' best performance I've seen from her from start to finish," Purdum said. "The types of saves she had to come up with to keep a clean sheet and to keep us in the game were impressive. Her composure and her heart shined through every time."

Keen stepped up in her first-career start and didn't just showcase defensive prowess but a little offensive punch, as well. Her through ball to Glover was Keen's first-career assist.

"What impressed me was just the maturity from Addison," Purdum said. "She wasn't nervous. She wasn't shaking. She just stepped up in a big way and rose to the occasion, and I'm pleased for her."

Georgia led in shots, 23-8, however, Wyoming was much more efficient. Three of the Cowgirls' eight shots tested Georgia keeper, Hannah Folliard, while only six of the Bulldogs' 23 shots needed Bartel's assistance.

Thursday marked the first road ranked win in school history and the second ranked win, overall, in program history. Both of those milestones are under Purdum's leadership, as the Pokes shut out No. 11 Utah State, 2-0, last year in Laramie.

Wyoming takes a week off before its next match. It travels to Idaho State on Sept. 11 for a 7 p.m. contest at Davis Field.
