LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 30, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls, coming off a successful 2-0 start to Mountain West play in Laramie, will hit the road for the first time during league action this week. The Cowgirls will travel to face new Mountain West member Grand Canyon at 7 p.m., Mountain Time Thursday before closing the road swing at New Mexico 1 p.m., Saturday.
Last week, Wyoming held on to win a five-set thriller over Border Rival Colorado State in the conference opener. The Cowgirls then followed that up with a quick sweep of Air Force Saturday afternoon. In the win against AFA, Wyoming out-blocked the Falcons 17-4. Sarah Holcomb recorded 10 blocks against Air Force, giving her 17 for the week on her way to being named the Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. It was the third career honor for Holcomb for the award.
Holcomb, who is second in the league through two conference matches averaging 2.13 blocks per set, is fifth in the league in all matches averaging 1.37 blocks per set in 2025. Also defensively, Skylar Erickson's 3.65 digs per set ranks fourth in the conference. Offensively, the Cowgirls have had a balanced attack as Paige Lauterwasser leads the squad with 125 kills and 2.55 per set. Holcomb is second on the squad with 114 kills while Addy Cook is third with 113 and is second, averaging 2.51 per set. As a team, Wyoming's .220 team hitting percentage on the season ranks third-best in the MW.
Wyoming's 12.73 kills and 11.84 assists per set, both rank fifth in the conference. On defense, UW's 14.63 digs per set ranks third while its 2.51 blocks per set as a team ranks fourth. This week's matches will be the third and fourth true road matches for the Cowgirls this season.
Grand Canyon is led by Anaelena Ramierez's 3.11 kills per set this season, a mark that ranks 10th in the league. Defensively, the Lopes are led by the conference's top defender statistically in Hayden Goodman whose 1.55 blocks per set leads the MW. In the back row, GCU has a pair of student-athletes with 130-plus digs. Bella Anderson has a team leading 138 on the year while Bella Nunez has recorded 134. Nunez is also second on the team with 181 assists while Taylor Kubacak's 238 (5.17 per set) are a team best. As a team, Grand Canyon is third in the Mountain West in blocks with 2.60 per set. GCU is 5-3 at home this season.
New Mexico is second in the league in team hitting percentage, hitting .229 this season. The Lobos are also second in the conference averaging 14.79 digs per set in 2025. Individually, UNM is led by Camila Canedo's 3.79 digs per set, which ranks third in the league. Madeleine Miller's 8.88 assists per set ranks fourth-best in the MW. Offensively, Addison France leads the Lobos averaging three kills and 3.30 points per set while hitting an efficient .292. Gioia Riccato also has 100-plus kills on the season, coming in with 107. Solia Angilau's 45 blocks (1.10 per set) are a team high. UNM is 4-2 at home in 2025.
