LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 23, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls begin Mountain West play with a pair of home matches this week. The Cowgirls welcome in Colorado State for Round One of the Border War with the Rams, Thursday night at 6:30. UW closes the week with a 1 p.m., matchup against Air Force Saturday.
Wyoming (4-7) is coming off a 1-2 week at home last week at the UniWyo Invite. The Cowgirls dropped a pair of tough five-set battles to Long Beach State and Idaho State to begin the invite before closing on a high note, sweeping Portland. Skylar Erickson notched a career-high 25 digs, twice, during the week, against LBSU and Idaho State. Erickson is fourth in the league now in digs per set with 3.73. Addy Cook, who led the Cowgirls in kills in all three matches, averaged 3.15 per set at the invite.
Cook is part of a balanced trio of attackers this season for Wyoming, as she is one of three Cowgirls with at least 95 kills. Cook is second on the squad with 101 kills while Paige Lauterwasser leads the way with 109. Sarah Holcomb, meanwhile, has 95 kills and leads UW hitting .290 in 2025 and is averaging 1.22 blocks per set, a mark that ranks sixth in the Mountain West.
As a team defensively, the Cowgirls rank third in the league in digs per set (14.66) and fourth in blocks per (2.32). On offense, Wyoming is fifth in both kills (12.56) and assists (11.63) per set during non-conference action.
Colorado State, who is 1-2 on the road this season, won its last match away from home, defeating Colorado in four sets. The Rams are led by a pair of attackers in Maria Brun and Eve Wilson, who have recorded 108 and 107 kills, respectively. CSU ranks second in the Mountain West in team hitting percentage (.240) and opponent hitting percentage (.161). The Rams are also second in the conference averaging 2.73 blocks per set. Kekua Richards leads the way averaging 1.58 blocks per set, which leads the MW. Erin Debiec's 8.75 assists per set in 2025 are the fourth-most in the conference. This will be the 99th meeting in the series between the longtime rivals.
Air Force is led by two of the league's top hitters in Ashley Bible, who's 3.44 kills per set ranks second-best in the Mountain West while Alysa Walker's 3.43 per is third in the league. Bible and Loyd also rankd third and fourth, respectively in the league in points per set. Mia Loyd leads the MW in assists averaging 10.21 per set. Loyd is also third in the league in service aces. As a team, the Falcons lead the conference in assists (12.21) and kills (13.11) per set this season. After beginning 2025 winning seven consecutive matches, AFA has lost 4-of-5 matches entering the week.
