LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 20, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls closed the UniWyo Invite on a high note Saturday afternoon, taking care of business in three sets over Portland in the tournament finale. Set scores went 25-18, 25-21 and 25-20.
The Cowgirls (4-7) hit a season-high .372 as a team in the sweep, hitting no-lower than .324 in any set. Portland was also efficient offensively, hitting .323 as a squad and also recording more kills (46-43). Wyoming held a slight 5-4 edge in blocks and was led by Sarah Holcomb's three in total. Evelyn Udezue recorded a pair of solo blocks.
Wyoming's big advantage came at the service line Saturday, recording seven aces to the Pilots' one. The Cowgirls also committed just three serving errors while Portland had 10, including six in the third set. Paige Lauterwasser and Sara Quigley led the way with two aces each.
Offensively, Addy Cook led the Cowgirl attack for the third consecutive match as she paced a balanced UW offense with 11 kills while hitting .563. Holcomb and Claire Wagstaff had eight kills each and hit .500 and .375, respectively. Lauterwasser chipped in with seven and hit .316 while Udezue notched six on nine swings for a .667 hitting efficiency.
Quigley led the team with 24 assists on the day. Maddy Stucky had 13 and added five digs. Lily LaFlesch led the back row with eight digs against Portland while Skylar Erickson added seven. Erickson closes her impressive tournament averaging 4.38 digs per set.
Next up, the Cowgirls begin Mountain West play in the no-look league for the 2025 season. Wyoming opens with a pair of home contests next week, beginning with the Border War against Colorado State Thursday night. First serve is set for 6:30.
