USAFA, Colo. (Sept. 20, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls took the courts for the second day of the Bedford Cup, hosted by Air Force Saturday. The Cowgirls found success in the morning session of doubles play and also earned a pair of singles victories on the day as well.
Day two featured a pair of doubles rounds. The team of Silver Bijlsma and Violetta Borodina won their first match, 6-1 over a team from CSU before bowing out in the semifinals, 6-4. The tandem of Serina Abriola and Eugenia Ceinos also advanced to the semifinals in their flight, winning the first matchup of the day by blanking Idaho State, 6-0. The duo lost 6-2 in the semis. The Cowgirls also got a 1-1 day from Dilnaz Mashabayeva and Madlena Orlova, who opened with a 6-4 win before losing 6-2 in the next matchup.
In singles, UW got wins from Borodina and Orlova in the lone round of singles action. Borodina won in straight sets, 6-0 and 7-6 (7-5) over Luana Avelar of CSU. Orlova, meanwhile, took a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) and 10-6 victory over UNM's Lea Malazdra.
"We had some ups and downs today, which can't happen," said Head Coach Dean Clower.
"We need to be much more disciplined in doubles, which will be fixed next week at practice. In singles, we are getting better, which is a good sign this early in the year."
Sunday on the final day of the event, the Cowgirls just played a pair of doubles contests.The team of Bijlsma and Borodina got a 6-4 win to close the tournament. Next up for the Cowgirls will be the Mountain West Fall Individual Championships.
