FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 12, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls got back on the winning tract in impressive fashion Friday afternoon in a neutral-site victory over Rhode Island. The Cowgirls dispatched of the Rams in three, recording their second sweep of 2025. Set scores went 25-17, 25-17 and 25-16.
The Cowgirls (3-5) trailed for only six points in the sweep over the Rams Friday, with all of those coming in the second set. Wyoming led wire-to-wire in set one to open the contest and never trailed in the decisive third set, only allowing URI to tie it once, at 1-1.
Evelyn Udezue led the Cowgirls in all facets of Friday's win, playing arguably her best match in the Brown & Gold. Udezue tied the school record for most service aces in a three-set match Friday, recording seven in the victory. Udezue also was tied with Paige Lauterwasser with a match-high 10 kills while hitting .375. Udezue also notched a pair of blocks in the sweep.
Addy Cook and Sarah Holcomb each chipped in with six kills and hit .556 on the day. Holcomb closed her strong defensive week with a team-best three blocks. Maddy Stucky recorded a career-high 20 assists in the win while Sara Quigley had 19 assists. Lauterwasser and Stucky led the way with six digs each against the Rams.
Wyoming was solid offensively in the win, hitting .280 as a team and recording 44 total kills. The Cowgirls held the Rams to just 24 kills and a .063 hitting percentage. UW also held a 6-5 edge in team blocks. At the service line, the Cowgirls were aggressive as Udezue's seven aces helped lead to 10 team serving aces. URI had just one in the matchup.
Skylar Erickson and Lauterwasser were named to the Fight in the Fort All-Tournament Team after the match.
Now that Wyoming has secured its first win away from home in 2025, it now returns to Laramie for its second home tournament of the season next week. The Cowgirls will host the three-day UniWyo Invitational next week, beginning Thursday with a 6:30 p.m., contest against Long Beach State.
