FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 11, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls battled with a pair of ranked teams Thursday in day one at the TCU Fight in the Fort. The Cowgirls dropped a four-set loss to No. 23 Missouri to open the day before falling in three to 15th-ranked TCU.
In the loss to Missouri, Wyoming battled with the Tigers all match, splitting the first two sets of the contest. After dropping the third set, the Cowgirls pushed Mizzou in the fourth set and had set point at 28-27. However, the Tigers responded with three consecutive points to pull out the frame and take the victory. Set scores against Missouri went 14-25, 25-20, 18-25 and 28-30.
Missouri hit .195 in the contest while the Cowgirls hit .112. Both teams were strong at the net defensively as the Tigers held a 17-14 edge in team blocks. The Tigers also had a slight 4-3 advantage in service aces.
Paige Lauterwasser led the way offensively with a match- and season-high 18 kills. Lauterwasser also notched her second double-double of 2025 as she had 13 digs in the loss. Sarah Holcomb and Addy Thorington added nine and eight kills, respectively. Holcomb was a kill shy of her sixth career double-double as she was a menace defensively, tallying 11 total blocks, four solo and seven assisted.
In the back row, Skylar Erickson led the Cowgirls with 15 digs in the loss. Maddy Stucky, in her first-career action at UW, recorded a double-double as she had 10 digs and 16 assists. Sara Quigley led Wyoming with 18 assists. Erickson, Rya Fingerlin and Lily LaFlesch all had an ace against the top-25 Tigers.
In the loss to the host Horned Frogs, Lauterwasser again led the Cowgirl attack, tallying nine kills. Claire Wagstaff added five kills while Holcomb had four. Holcomb, along with Addy Cook, led the Cowgirls with five total blocks in the loss to TCU.
In the back row, Erickson continued her strong day as she had 16 digs. Stucky, meanwhile, registered her second consecutive double-double as she had a team-high 11 assists and had 10 digs. Quigley had eight assists and eight digs and had one of UW's two service aces. Lauterwasser had the other.
TCU hit .228 in the contest while holding Wyoming to just a .096 clip. Both teams had nine total blocks on the evening. The Horned Frogs enjoyed an 8-2 advantage in service aces, including tallying five in the first set.
Wyoming looks to bounce back with the final contest of the tourney Friday with a 3 p.m., matchup against Rhode Island.
