POCATELLO, Idaho (9/11/25) – It's a recipe that has worked quite a few times this season for the University of Wyoming soccer team. The Cowgirls play 90 minutes of stellar defense and let
Alyssa Glover cook offensively.
Glover netted her fifth goal of the season on Thursday, as the Cowgirls blanked Idaho State, 1-0, at Davis Field. The victory improves the Pokes to 4-1-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Bengals to 2-3-2 on the year.
"We defended well," head coach
Josh Purdum said. "There were some shaky moments there, but we defended well. We just have to challenge the goalkeeper more. Only having two shots on goal isn't going to get it done in most cases. But we are fortunate to get the one on target that counted, and we'll take the win on the road."
It took more than two-thirds of the match, but Glover extended her consecutive goal streak to five. She did so herself in the 64th minute from an impressive distance. She fired it from well outside the penalty area for her 13th career score, which moves her into the top 15 in program history.
Goalkeeper,
Haley Bartel, is another one who's vaulting up the record books. She recorded the 15th clean sheet of her career, solidifying her top-five position in school history. She made a trio of saves Thursday in what was her fourth shutout of the season.
Wyoming mostly controlled the contest against the Bengals. The Cowgirls led in shots, 14-8, however only two of them were on target and held a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Kiley Ballek and
Hadley Linder led the way with three shots apiece.
Peyton Hunt also had multiple shots with two.
Idaho State goalkeeper, Hannah Wieler, made just one save on the night. Talia Coury and Saydree Cooke each had a pair of shots.
The Pokes return home Sunday to celebrate their seniors. Wyoming hosts Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex with five seniors – Hunt,
Lily Brongo,
Eliza-Grace Smith,
Ava Furrow and
Jazi Barela – being honored after the game.
"The challenges Sunday are a balance," Purdum said. "It's enjoying and celebrating the moment and celebrating our seniors in hopefully the best way possible – by putting together a good performance for them."
