LARAMIE, Wyo.  (July 29, 2025) – Cowboy football center Jack Walsh was named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List on Tuesday morning. It marks the third-straight year that Wyoming has had a player on the list with Jordan Bertagnole named the previous two seasons. Walsh is the first offensive lineman on the list since Keegan Cryder in 2021.

The 50 returning standout interior linemen on the list represent nine of the FBS conferences and Independents. The 2025 season will close with the award's 80th winner selected from players spread among at least 35 different programs that includes one returning FWAA All-American.
The recipient of the 2025 Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN on Friday, Dec. 12. The official trophy presentation to the winner will be made at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee on Jan. 21, 2026 in Omaha, Neb.

There are 16 offensive tackles and 15 guards on this year's list to go with 10 defensive tackles and nine centers.

Walsh was named to the Preseason All-MW team earlier this month and was named preseason All-MW by numerous publications. He appeared and started 10 games for the Cowboys in 2024 and was a veteran upfront. He was named Second Team along the offensive line. Walsh recorded over 650 snaps during the season and did not allow a sack. He recorded over 20 pancake blocks along the offensive line. Pro Football Focus ranked him the No. 25 guard in the nation and fourth in the MW. Helped the Cowboys record 604 yards of total offense at New Mexico for the most since recording 604 yards on Nov. 20, 2021 at Utah State. The Cowboys threw for 342 yards in that same contest for the most since the 2015 season.

The Outland Trophy, celebrating its 80th year since its founding, is the third-oldest major college football award. Created in 1946 when Dr. John Outland presented the FWAA with a financial contribution to initiate the award, the Outland Trophy has been given to the best interior lineman in college football ever since Dr. Outland, an All-American at the University of Pennsylvania in the late 1890s, eventually took up practice in Kansas City, Mo. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Outland believed linemen did not get the credit they deserved and wanted an award to recognize them.
