RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Cowgirls are eighth in the team standings after shooting a 14-over 302 in the opening round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.
Senior
Kyla Wilde (+2) and freshman
Kira Reisner (+2) paced Wyoming after shooting 74 on the par-72, 6,286- yard course. They are tied for 14
th place on the individual leaderboard.
"Kyla's putting was the positive difference for her today from our last events," UW head coach
Josey Stender said. "Kira also continues to build off each performance and experience this spring."
Senior
Meghan Vogt (+5) and reigning MW freshman of the week
Lucia Morelli (+5) are tied for 28
th and rounded out the scoring for the Cowgirls.
UW is two shots ahead of ninth-place San Diego State (304) and one shot behind seventh-place Boise State (301) entering the second round on Wednesday.
Nevada is in first place after an even-par 288. Reigning champion San Jose State (291) is three shots back.
San Jose State's Lucia Lopez Ortega is the individual leader after firing a 69 (-3) to finish one shot ahead of teammate Moa Andersson (-2) and Nevada's Anna Schultse (-2).
"The Cowgirls played solid, steady team golf today that put us right in the mix with 36 holes to go," Stender said. "I am very proud how focused and present they were in each shot, even when they got into trouble."
Day two tee times begin at 8 a.m. MT on Wednesday with UW paried with Boise State and San Diego State.
