Track & Field Readied for Loaded Week in California

AZUSA & LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 15, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program has a stacked week as they travel west to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Wednesday to Friday, in Azusa, Calif., and the Pacific Coast Invitational, Thursday, and Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday, both in Long Beach, Calif.

OUTDOOR REFRESHER
With the indoor season in the rear-view mirror, outdoor track and field welcomes a slew of new events. You won't find events like the weight throw, 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles that were staples of the last few months. Instead, you will see Pokes excel in events like the 100-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles and the hammer throw. Here is a list of events you'll only see in the outdoor season.

LAST TIME OUT
At the Kit Mayer Classic last weekend in Golden, Colo., Wyoming sat atop nine podiums and finished Top-3 in another eight events while 29 personal bests were set across action, Friday and Saturday. Nine new program Top-10 marks were also set. 

Junior Elayna Chafee set the No. 7 mark in the triple jump with her first-place finish of 11.98 meters. She also was a part of the 4x100-meter relay along with freshman Taliah Morris, freshman Megan Witkiewicz and senior Gabby Drube. The squad finished first with a time of 45.60, good for No. 6 in program history. For the men's 4x100-meter relay, the team of freshmen Christian Edwards, Bridger Norton and Logan Brown and junior Carter McComb also took first with a program No. 10 time of 40.84. 

In the men's long jump, junior Remar Pitter set the program No. 4 outdoor mark with a jump of 7.68 meters. Freshman Charles LaFore set the freshman hammer throw record and moved to No. 6 in program history with his throw of 66.68 meters, the best true freshman mark in the country this year. 

Morris also entered the Top-10 in the 100 meters with her time of 11.80, tying her with No. 6 while McComb moved up to No. 5 in the program record book with his finish of 10.48. Senior Jaheim Ferguson now holds the No. 2 time in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 50.64, a personal best. 

Closing the meet was freshman Avery Navest scoring 4,803 points in the heptathlon, the most points for Wyoming since 2014 and the new No. 3 in the record book.
