Cowgirls Stave Off Six Match Points to Mount Epic Rally on Senior Night

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 22, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion Saturday night inside the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowgirls were able to best Grand Canyon on Senior Night in five thrilling sets, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 19-25 and 18-16.

Wyoming (17-12, 13-5 MW) fought off six match points in the decisive fifth set to escape with the nail-biting victory. The Cowgirls trailed in the set 14-9, but were able to claw their way back to tie things at 14-14. After Grand Canyon went in front again at 15-14, Wyoming was able to score four of the next five points to complete the epic comeback and close the regular season on a four-match winning streak.

On the night, UW hit .227 while the Lopes hit .209. Both teams recorded four service aces apiece while GCU had seven more digs than the Cowgirls. Wyoming had a 13-10 edge in team blocks and committed five more serving errors than Grand Canyon on the night.

Paige Lauterwasser was all over the court in the win for Wyoming, as she tallied a team-high 17 kills and 19 digs on the night, while also leading the Cowgirls with a pair of service aces and chipped in with three block assists. Sarah Holcomb and Emma Winter had 13 kills each, with Holcomb hitting an efficient .423 against the Lopes. Addy Cook also finished in double figures with 10 kills.

Defensively, Holcomb's seven total blocks led the way for the Brown & Gold on her Senior Night. Jordan Sandy, also a senior, recorded five blocks in the victory. In the back row, the third Cowgirl senior, Skylar Erickson, notched 16 digs in the match. Sara Quigley had 11 digs while Rya Fingerlin chipped in with 10.

Quigley recorded a double-double as she led the way with 26 assists for Wyoming. Maddy Stucky recorded 24 digs while adding six digs and an ace. Fingerlin had the Cowgirls' other ace in the contest.

Next up is postseason play as the Cowgirls will be the No. 3 seed at next week's Mountain West Volleyball Championships in Las Vegas. Wyoming will face sixth-seeded San Diego State at 5 p.m., Mountain Time Wednesday, November 26 to open tournament play.
