LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 18, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls close the 2025 regular season with a pair of matches at home this week. The Cowgirls welcome in New Mexico at 6:30 p.m., Thursday before closing with Senior Night Saturday at 6 p.m., against Grand Canyon.
The Cowgirls (15-12, 11-5 MW) are coming off a 2-0 week on the road last week and clinched a spot in next week's Mountain West Volleyball Championships in Las Vegas. It is the first time since the league began the six-team tournament format in 2021 that Wyoming has qualified for the tournament. Wyoming secured its place thanks to a four-set victory at UNLV and a sweep over San Diego State.
Sarah Holcomb led the Cowgirls last week averaging 2.29 blocks per set in the two wins. Thanks to those numbers, Holcomb was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. In the win over the Aztecs, Holcomb recorded 11 blocks in the sweep, marking the fourth time this season she has recorded double-digit blocks in a match. On the season, Holcomb's 1.52 blocks per set and 158 total blocks leads the Mountain West and ranks eighth and third, respectively in the nation. Holcomb's .351 hitting percentage this season is second-best in the conference.
Skylar Erickson recorded 26 digs last week and is now just two digs shy of becoming the 10th member of the 1,000-Digs Club in program history. Paige Lauterwasser, who recorded her 12th double-double of the season against UNLV, continues to lead UW with 274 kills this season and is second on the team behind Erickson, averaging 3.13 digs per set. Sara Quigley leads Wyoming with 23 service aces in 2025 and is averaging 6.10 assists per set, which ranks eighth in the league. Jordan Sandy is averaging 1.15 blocks per set, which ranks eighth in the MW.
As a team, the Cowgirls lead the league in digs, averaging 15.32 per set as a team. Wyoming's 2.73 blocks per on the season ranks third in the Mountain West and is 16th nationally. UW is fourth in the conference with a .218 team hitting percentage. In conference only play, the Cowgirls rank third in both team hitting percentage (.223) and opponent hitting percentage (.196).
New Mexico is one of the top defensive teams in the league this season, ranking in the top five in opponent hitting percentage (.205), blocks per set (2.22) and digs per set (14.80). The Lobos' Camila Canedo leads the Mountain West averaging 4.32 digs per set this season and is the only player in the league averaging better than four digs per set. Addison France leads the UNM offense with 2.74 kills per set this season while Madeleine Miller's 8.70 assists per set ranks fourth-best in the conference this season.
Grand Canyon is led by Anaelena Ramirez, who ranks 10th in the Mountain West in both kills (3.22) and points (3.64) per set this season. Aubrey Goodere ranks fifth in the league with a .335 hitting percentage while Aubrey Bellus' 1.34 blocks per set is third in the MW. As a team, the Lopes are third in the conference with an opponent hitting percentage of .191. GCU also ranks fourth as a team in blocks averaging 2.70 per set, as well as in digs, with 2.70 per set in 2025.
