LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/5/25) – The University of Wyoming soccer team had been searching for more offense for weeks leading into Sunday's match against Nevada at the Madrid Sports Complex. It finally was discovered.
The Cowgirls popped off for three goals en route to a 3-0 win. The victory improves Wyoming to 6-3-4 on the season and 1-1-2 (5 points) in Mountain West Conference play while the loss drops Nevada to 2-8-2 overall and 1-2-1 (4 points) in league action.
"It was a complete performance, honestly, on both sides of the ball," head coach
Josh Purdum said. "Just the heart of the girls and the drive to go and get this one was really nice to see. We were disappointed from Thursday's performance and from the scoreline, but today we showed a lot of heart and responded extremely well."
The response came early Sunday. The Pokes netted two goals in the first half and a number of other shots that really stressed the Wolf Pack's defense.
Alyssa Glover scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season. Her 17th minute score was off a feed from
Maddie Burr, while her 36th minute goal was unassisted.
"I think we did well to put (Nevada) under pressure early and make sure they didn't get their heads up to see the field," Purdum said. "The biggest goal was to keep their heads down and make them play backwards."
Glover's goals were her 16th and 17th of her career. That moves her into a tie for seventh all-time in program history.
Kylee (Bliss) Quilici Quain also had a memorable day. She scored her first-career goal off a pass from
Eliza-Grace Smith in the 76th minute, which gave the contest its final tally.
Wyoming keeper,
Haley Bartel, didn't need to do much to record her 17th career clean sheet. She made one save in what was her seventh shutout of the season. Nevada goalie, Mia Collins, turned away 11 shots.
The Cowgirls fired 23 shots in all, 14 of which were on target. Glover had a team-high eight,
Kiley Ballek added four, while Smith and Quilici Quain each had a pair of shots. Nevada only managed eight shots and just the one on frame.
Wyoming is back in action Thursday at home. The Pokes host Air Force at 3 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
