LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 30, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls stormed out of the gates Thursday night, dominating the first two sets against San Jose State and then were able to put the Spartans away late to hang on for a four-set victory. Set scores went 25-18, 25-10, 24-26 and 25-18. Head Coach Kaylee Prigge recorded her 50th career victory on the night.
The Cowgirls (11-11, 7-4 MW) hit .378 and .394, respectively in the first two sets to jump out to the early lead in the match. The Spartans, meanwhile, hit .211 in the first but -.103 in the second. In the third, Wyoming led much of the set and had set point at 24-23 before SJSU was able to score three straight to send the match into a fourth set.
In the fourth, UW trailed just twice, at 1-0 and 2-1. The Cowgirls were able to separate from San Jose State following the media timeout. Wyoming went on a 6-1 run out of the break to build up a 21-15 lead. From there, the Cowgirls were able to keep the pace the rest of the frame to take the set and the frame.
Paige Lauterasser had a great match in the win, recording a match-high 16 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Lauterwasser was also one shy of her career-high for digs, as she, along with Skylar Erickson, tallied 19 in the victory. Sarah Holcomb added 13 and hit .379. Holcomb, Jordan Sandy and Claire Wagstaff recorded four total block each, to lead the Cowgirls on the night.
Lily LaFlesch led the back row with a career-best 20 digs in the win. In Wyoming's 6-2 offense, it was a balanced offensive attack when either setter was on the floor. Sara Quigley had 24 assists on the night while Maddy Stucky had 23. Quigley also had four kills against the Spartans. Erickson had UW's lone service ace.
As a team, Wyoming hit .299 in the contest while SJSU hit .129. The Cowgirls also enjoyed a 12-4 advantage in team blocks. UW had nine more kills on the night and had a slight edge in digs, 74-73. San Jose had two aces on the night while both teams committed seven serving errors.
Wyoming closes the week with another home match Saturday. The Cowgirls welcome in Fresno State for a 1 p.m., contest inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.
