Wyoming Ready to Host a Pair of Matches This Week

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 28, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls host a pair of matches this week against California school. Wyoming hosts San Jose State at 6:30 p.m., Thursday before welcoming in Fresno State for a 1 p.m., match Saturday.

The Cowgirls (10-11, 6-4 MW) are coming off a split last week as they defeated Nevada in four sets in Laramie before falling at Colorado State in the second Border War match this season. In the victory over the Wolf Pack, Paige Lauterwasser led the way with 14 kills, hit .444 and tallied a career-best 20 digs in the win. Lauterwasser now has a team-best nine double-doubles on the season.

Sarah Holcomb recorded 12 total blocks in the two matches last week and now leads the Mountain West in blocks per set with 1.46. That mark ranks 12th-best in the country. Holcomb's 120 total blocks are the third-most in the nation in 2025. Holcomb also ranks fifth in the league with a .336 hitting percentage and is one of two Cowgirls (Lauterwasser) that has at least 200 kills for the season. Skylar Erickson, who ranks sixth in the league averaging 3.67 digs per set, recorded a pair of service aces last week and moved into 10th-place on the all-time career aces list in program history. Erickson has 100 aces while at Wyoming.

As a team, UW's 2.61 team blocks per set ranks fourth in the MW and is 30th in the country. The Cowgirls' 214 total blocks are 16th nationally. Wyoming also ranks fourth in the league averaging 14.87 digs per set while its .212 team hitting percentage is fifth in the conference.

San Jose State is led by Morgan Graves' 219 kills and 2.64 kills per set this season. Fatimah Hall ranks sixth in the league in assists averaging 7.35 per set and is tied for sixth in the conference with 0.31 service aces per set. As a team, the Spartans rank third in conference play allowing opponents to hit just .185 during league matches. Their 15.17 digs per set also ranks third in the Mountain West. Overall, SJSU is averaging 2.09 blocks per set as a squad and had 1.39 service aces per set. Ava Hewitt leads the Spartans with 1.16 blocks per set in 2025. San Jose is 3-4 in true road matches in 2025.

Fresno State enters the week in search of its first road victory of the season. The Bulldogs are led by the league's top offensive player statistically this season. Addison Haluska leads the league in both kills (4.67) and points (5.29) per set during conference play. Haluska's marks in those categories lead the league in all matches as well. Gabby Lombardi is fifth in the conference in assists per set with 8.34 while her sister, Olivia, ranks fifth in the MW averaging 3.76 digs per set. As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .214 while allowing opponents to hit .263 in all contests.
