SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Oct. 2, 2025) – The University of Wyoming cross country program opens October's slate of meets when it returns for a second-straight year to take on the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame, Friday, in South Bend, Ind.
The Cowgirls will kick off the meet at 7:50 a.m. MT, in the 5k Blue Division while the Cowboys will race at 8:30 a.m. MT, in the 8k Blue Division.

The field will be highlighted by host Notre Dame, the men's No. 9 and women's No. 10 nationally-ranked teams. Three other teams received votes heading into the meet in South Carolina women, Michigan men and Boise State men.
In the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings, the Cowboys rose to a season-high No. 6, up three from week one, while the Cowgirls moved up one to No. 10.
Last year at the Joe Piane Invitational, the Cowboys finished fourth, ahead of the No. 30 nationally-ranked team, and posted five Top 15 program times while the Cowgirls finished eighth over the No. 25 nationally-ranked team and added six Top 15 times. The Top 4 times in the men's 8k and women's 5k are still from last year's Notre Dame meet.

At the Roy Griak Invitational, senior
Jacob White won the men's individual title and led the Cowboys to a second-place team finish. With his effort in the race, White won the USTFCCCA Men's DI National Athlete of the Week and the Mountain West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week award. The Cowboys boasted another two finishers in the Top 10 with seniors
Ryker Holtzen and
Mathis Chavand crossing the line third and sixth, respectively.
The Cowgirls finished seventh as a team, led by sophomore
Muriel Jones' personal best time of 22:50.9 for 31st. In the young competing group, several Cowgirls traversed the grueling course and set themselves up for an exciting meet this week.
