USAFA, Colo. (Oct. 18, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls were able to snap their three-match losing streak on the road Saturday night with a strong four-set victory over Air Force. Set scores went 25-15, 25-16, 16-25 and 25-18.
The Cowgirls (9-10, 5-3 MW) came out and controlled the first two sets, trailing just once in the first and led wire-to-wire in the second. After dropping the third, Wyoming responded to win the fourth and take the match. In the fourth, the Cowgirls trailed early, 8-7, but a 10-3 run in the frame pushed UW out in front 17-12. Later in the set, Air Force cut the Wyoming lead down to 21-18 before four consecutive points from the Cowgirls closed things out.
Wyoming hit .252 in the win while holding the Falcons to just a .131 hitting percentage. The Cowgirls, who didn't quite enjoy as big of a team blocking margin Saturday night, as their first matchup this season with AFA, did out-block the Falcons 12-9. Both teams had four service aces with Wyoming committing just one serving error.
Claire Wagstaff led a balanced Cowgirl attack. Wagstaff was one of six with 8-or-more kills in the win and led the way with 10 kills while hitting .350. Addy Cook, Sarah Holcomb, Jordan Sandy and Addy Thorington all had nine kills while Paige Lauterwasser added eight. Sandy hit a team-best .389 on the night and also led the way with seven total blocks. Holcomb and Wagstaff had five and four blocks, respectively.
Maddy Stucky and Sara Quigley both had 20-plus assists in the victory. Stucky led the way with 22 and had an ace, while Quigley had 21 and also added three kills. Skylar Erickson led the Cowgirls with 16 digs and had a pair of aces. Lily LaFlesch had 10 digs and an ace on the night.
UW returns home Thursday for a rematch with Nevada at 6:30 p.m., in Laramie. The Cowgirls and Wolf Pack just played in Reno two nights ago. Saturday, The Cowgirls will travel for round two of the Border War with Colorado State.
