GREEN RIVER – The Wyoming swim team was swept during a competitive dual against Utah on Friday at the Green River High School Aquatic Center.

The Cowgirls lost 156-106 and the Cowboys lost 178-84 to the Utes, but the brown and gold performed well against a talented Big 12 program during the community outreach event.

"Just the number of fans that were here cheering on people they had swam in high school with or they knew on the team, that energy was a lot of fun, and I think we saw it in the results," UW head coach Dave Denniston said. "There were a lot of fast swims today and a lot of first place finishes by Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls."

UW's first-place finishers were:

Macey Hansen in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle (10:09.43).

Tara Joyce in the women's 200-yard freestyle (1:50.00). Joyce was also second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.21) behind Utah's Erin Palmer (49.98).

Ellie Fritscher in the women's 200-yard butterfly (2:03.79).

Brynlee Busskohl in the women's 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.81). Busskohl was also second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.93) behind Palmer (1:00.40).

Griffith Orloff in the men's 200-yard breaststroke (2:01.82).

Gavin Smith in the men's 100-yard butterfly (47.63).

The Cowboys (Collin Davis, Andrew Ravegum, Smith and Luke O'Connor) also won the men's 400-yard medley relay (3:16.88).

"Overall, a great meet," Denniston said. "We saw what we wanted to out of this meet in terms of some really good speed and we're set up well to get into the conference season."

Divers at Air Force

The UW divers are competing at the Air Force Falcon Diving Invitational, where Cowgirl junior Alicia Gonzalez finished second in the 1-meter final with a score of 284.70 behind Missouri's Gabriela San Juan Carmona. Gabriella Haigler, a senior from Casper, was seventh with a score of 256.40.

In the 3-meter final, Gonzalez was fourth (299.15), Natalie Six was seventh (265.90) and Haigler was 10th (247.35).

UW will compete in the University of Denver Chance Invitational Feb. 7-8 in the El Pomar Natatorium.
