Wyoming Track & Field Kicks off 2024 Mountain West Championships

CLOVIS, California — The Cowboys and Cowgirls got their 2024 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships started on Thursday with one podium finish and a number of notable finishes. 

HAMMER THROW

Daniel Reynolds and Mary Carbee kicked off the Championships in the Hammer Throw. Carbee and the women were up first with Carbee posting two points for the Cowgirls in the event throwing 187-1. Reynolds, the Wyoming record holder in the event, earned the first podium finish of the Championships for the Cowboys with a strong second place finish. Reynolds went 216-1. 

10000M 

Eowyn Dalbec turned in a sixth place finish in the 10000M race. Dalbec went a time of 35:01.41 to post three points for the Cowgirls. Hailey Uhre went 35:58.72 for a ninth place finish. Cooper Brown ran a 32:10.83 and finished in ninth for the Cowboys. 

PRELIMS 

Four track student athletes find themselves in the finals on Saturday after impressive races on Thursday in the preliminary rounds of the Championships. Salma Elbadra ran a 2:06.84 in the 800 to qualify for the final with the second fastest time. The freshman owns the school record in the event she has run twice this season. 

Gabby Drube, Taylor Weidinger and Jaheim Ferguson have all qualified for the final in the 400M Hurdles. Drube and Weidginger went 1:00.00 and 1:00.09 to qualify in sixth and seventh while Ferguson went 52.92 to sit in fifth ahead of Saturdays championship race. All three sit on the top-ten of the Wyoming record books in the event with Drube in third. 

Sage Coventry finished in tenth in the Javelin with a mark of 168-8.

Libby Berryhill, Madelyn Blazo, Jasymne Cooper and Paige Sefired all ran the 800M but did not qualify for the final. In order they turned in times of 2:11.19, 2:13.63, 2:14.82 and 2:15.13 to finish 11th, 17th, 19th and 20th. 

Mac Zastrow and Tristan Knueppel went 15th and 17th in the men's 800 and did qualify for the final. The Cowboy duo went 1:54.22 and 1:55.57. 

Ava Morgan finished in 25th in the 200M dash prelims with a time of 26.38.
