CLOVIS, California. — Three Cowboys earned their spots on the podium on day two from the 2024 Mountain West Outdoor Championships. Three Cowboys moved on to Saturday's finals and the rest of the action from Friday in California.
PODIUM FINISHES
Ryker Holtzen capped off the day by earning an individual title in the 3000M Steeplechase. Hotline, who owns the school record in the event, went 8:43.14 to win the Steeplechase by three seconds and earn the first win at these Championships for the Cowboys. Albert Steiner posted an eighth place finish for the Pokes earning one point for the team with his run of 8:54.64.
Daniel Reynolds took his spot on the podium for the second time in as many days. Reynolds, took second in Thursday's Hammer Throw Final, went a personal best 59-5 in the Shot Put and once again took second place for the Pokes. Already the school record holder in the Hammer Throw, Reynolds enters the record books in the Shot Put at No. 7 all time. Gage Griffith earned two points for the Cowboys in the event with his throw of 55-3.75 and a seventh place finish.
Hunter Brown got things started on day two for the Cowboys with a podium finish. Brown, took third for the Cowboys with a jump of 24-6.5.
PRELIMS
Three Cowboys earned their spot in Saturday's final by making their way through the prelims on Friday. Jaymison Cox went 47.29 in the 400M Dash to qualify in fourth. Trevor Stephen and Mac Zastrow went 3:48.68 and 3:48.73 in the 1500M to move on through to tomorrow's Championship race.
FINALS
Remar Pitter finished ninth in the Long Jump with a mark of 23-5.5.
Abigail Whitman, Keely Wolf and Rozlyn Slichko took on the 3000M Steeplechase and finished in ninth, 13th and 16th for the Cowgirls. In order they ran times of 10:34.45, 10:57.81 and 11:15.93.
Josh Rodgers took ninth place in the Steeplechase with a time of 9:19.38.
Sage Coventry and Samuel Schneider finished in ninth and 11th in the High Jump both with marks of 6-2.75.
Cam Burkett finished in 11th place in the Shot Put with a throw of 51-5.
Ava Morgan took 14th place in the 100M Hurdles running a 14.63.
Carter McComb went 10.79 in the 100M Dash to finish in 14th place.
Sadie McMullen, Joan Easter and Elayna Chafee went 15th, 16th and 19th in the Long Jump for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirl trio posted marks of 18-10.5, 18-9.25 and 18-1.
Kayla Stibley finished in 16th place in the Pole Vault finishing with a height of 11-9.
Asefa Wetzel and Tristan Knueppel took 13th and 19th in the 1500M with times of 3:49.72 and 4:03.69.
THIRD & FINAL DAY
The Cowboys have earned 45 points so far in the Championships and head into the third and final day of action in fourth place.
