LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 22, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team rebounded in a big way Friday afternoon in Laramie, picking up their first Mountain West victory of the season over Boise State, winning 4-1. The win evens UW's conference record to 1-1 and moves the overall mark to 10-7 on the year.

"I thought it was pretty gutsy the way we bounced back today," said Head Coach Dean Clower after the match.

"To lose 4-3 on the road like last week, they could have easily faltered and lost confidence. I thought today we came out in doubles and played our style, we were very aggressive and I think the reason we came out and won this match was our leadership. Soph (Zehender), Noesjka (Brink), V (Violetta Borodina), those girls came out here ready to go. I'm super proud of them and I know we will look like that again on Sunday."

Wyoming came out strong to win a hotly-contested doubles point Friday. The Cowgirls got wins from the No. 1 and 3 positions to secure the point. First, at No. 1, it was the team of Violetta Borodina and Sophie Zehender who took care of business as usual, winning 6-3. At the third position, Jeselle Ante and Lucia Malinak picked up a 6-4 win to clinch the point.

In singles, Noesjka Brink opened the wins for the Cowgirls as she won at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-3. Next, was another straight-set win as Borodina came out on top, 6-1, 6-4. Zehender clinched the match on the day for the Brown & Gold as she came out on top in a three-set battle, 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3. With their singles wins, Brink and Zehender both move to 2-0 in conference action on the young MW season.

Next up, Wyoming will look to make it a 2-0 weekend at home. The Cowgirls welcome in Utah State for a 10 a.m., matchup Sunday.
