PHARR, Texas (3/2/24) – For the second consecutive day, a University of Wyoming relay set a new school at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Quinn Cynor, Quinn Teller, Caleb Ozenne and Gavin Smith took third, clocking in at 2:55.56.

It was this performance and many others that highlighted Saturday, the final day, of an emotional WAC Championships for the Cowboys. They ended up placing fourth as a team, tallying 470 points.

"This week is what I believe these men needed, and we are leaving this meet proud of what we did," head coach Dave Denniston said. "It will be nice to be back in Laramie together tomorrow."

UNLV, piling up 972 points, won the team title for the fourth consecutive year. Grand Canyon took second with 643 points and Cal Baptist rounded out the top three having accumulated 612 points.

Wyoming had a bunch of representation during the 200-yard butterfly Saturday night. Nearly half of the A Final were Cowboys.

Cynor led the charge, placing runner-up after boasting a time of 1:44.76. Smith was right on his heels in third with a time of 1:45.44, while Adam Pannell touched sixth in a 1:46.33, and Reilly Gilbert was 10th after clocking in at 1:48.19.

Ozenne led a crowded Cowboy contingent with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke that saw him go a 1:45.45. Collin Davis checked in at No. 10 after clocking in at 1:48.87, and Cameron Knox took 15th after going a 1:52.12.

It was a similar story in the 200-yard breaststroke. John Wargin took 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke, logging a time of 2:00.22. Drew Ravegum placed 13th, having recorded a time of 2:01.11, and Christian Louie was 15th with a time of 2:01.72.

Derek Long placed sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He recorded a time of 15:34.27.

Quinn Teller rounded out the top-15 placing Wyoming student-athletes. He took 14th in the 100-yard freestyle, registering a time of 44.80.

"The highlight individually was the 2-3 finish by Cynor and Smith," Denniston said. "And at the end we earned bronze in the 400 free relay with a school record time. Today was really about our seniors going out the best way possible. Reilly Gilbert and John Wargin left everything in the pool in their final race."

The Zone E Diving Championships stand as the next competition for the Cowboys. That takes place in Flagstaff, Arizona, from March 11-13.
