LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 13, 2024) – The defending Mountain West Champion Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team begins defense of its 2023 title Friday with the beginning of Mountain West action. The Cowgirls travel to face Nevada in a 1 p.m., contest.

Wyoming (9-6) went 9-1 last season in league play to claim its first-ever Mountain West crown. In its previous 12 seasons of league play under Head Coach Dean Clower, the Cowgirls have compiled a record of 53-21 (.716) in conference. UW went 9-6 this season in non-conference play and is coming off a split down in Mississippi last week.

The Cowgirls enter league play led by three-time All-Mountain West honoree Sophie Zehender, who has been named all-conference in both singles and doubles during her career. Zehender is second on the team with nine dual singles wins this season while in doubles, Zehender and her partner, Violetta Borodina, are 11-2 in 2024. Borodina is 8-4 in singles matches this season while Noesjka Brink has logged a team-best 10-3 mark in singles action.

Nevada is 5-4 this season and will be playing its first home match of the year Friday. The Cowgirls hung on in Fort Collins last season to defeat the Wolf Pack, 4-3. UW is 4-2 in program history in the series against Nevada.
