Track and Field Wraps Up Action Mountain West Championship

Elbadra wins Mile Run

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Feb. 24, 2024) – The University of Wyoming indoor track and field teams wrapped up action the 2024 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M. The Cowboys finished sixth with 61.50 points. The Cowgirls finished tied for tenth with 27 points.
 
Salma Elbadra won the women's mile run with a time of 4:46.02 winning the event by over a second. The Wyoming record holder in the mile run also finished second in the 3,000-meter race with a mark of 9:23, which was a school record.
 
Cam Burkett added a second-place finish in the shot put to his resume with a throw of 62'-01/4". His throw ranks third in school history behind only Jason Gervais and Mason Finley. Gage Griffith finished sixth for the Brown and Gold with a toss of 52' 11".
 
In the men's triple jump, Jefferson Danso finished third at 50' 4 ½ for a mark that is eighth in school history. Kaliff Guevara finished ninth in the event at 46' 6".
 
In the men's long jump, Hunter Brown finished with a mark of 6' 7" earning him a tie for sixth place.
 
In the relay events, the men's 1,600-meter squad finished sixth in the event with a time of 3:15.81, as the team of Cody Hape, Carter McComb, Jaheim Ferguson, and Jaymison Cox finished with the eighth fastest time in school history.
 
The women's team in the 1,600-meter relay of Gabby Drube, Paige Sefried, Taylor Weidinger, Jasmyne Cooper finished eighth with a time of 3:43.84. The time tied as the third-fastest in school history.
 
In other notable finishes, in the 3,000-meter event on the women's side, Hailey Uhre finished the race in tenth place with a time of 9:52.71. Madelyn Blazo recorded a time of 9:53.45 for 12th in the event. Eowyn Dalbec added a time of 9:55.40 to finish the event in the top-20.
 
In the men's 3,000-meter race Ryker Holtzen added a time of 8:17.49 to finish sixth. Mason Norman finished eighth in the race at 8:17.17. Gus McIntyre finished 14th at 8:20.21.
 
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship are set for March 8-9 on Boston, Mass.
