Cowgirls Take Care of Business in Round One of NIVC

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 5, 2024) – For the first time in program history, the Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team has won a national postseason tournament match in consecutive seasons. The Cowgirls took care of Idaho State at home Thursday night in four sets, 25-14, 25-20, 19-25 and 25-21. Wyoming advances to the Super 16 round to face Utah Valley at 6 p.m., Friday in Laramie.

The Cowgirls (16-12) got contributions all over the court Thursday with a balanced offensive attack as four Cowgirls finished with 10-plus kills and a fifth, with eight. Emma Winter led Wyoming with 12 kills on the night while Sarah Holcomb and Claire Wagstaff added 11. Paige Lauterwasser finished with 10 while Kayla Mazzocca had the eight, while hitting a team-best .533 on the night.

Holcomb and Mazzocca also paced the UW defense on the night, leading the way with six and five total blocks, respectively. Wagstaff, meanwhile, chipped in with four block assists. As a team, the Bengals (21-10) out-blocked the Cowgirls, 15-11. Wyoming did record a .228 hitting percentage to Idaho State's .157. UW hit .313 or better in three of the four sets.

Kasia Partyka spearheaded the Cowgirl attack in the win, tallying 45 assists to average better than 11 assists per set. Partyka also had nine digs, an ace and two blocks on the night. Sierra Grizzle led the back row defensively with 15 digs in the win and also had a team-best two aces. Wyoming had a 5-2 advantage in service aces.

Tickets for Friday's match against Utah Valley are already on sale at gowyo.com/tickets. Fans that have courtside seats have an application on their account that they can fill out to renew their courtside seats for Friday. Those seats will be held until noon Friday. The first 100 students to Friday's match will get in for free.

Utah Valley advanced to Friday's Super 16 matchup via a sweep over Washington State in the first match of the day in Laramie.
