LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 4, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team returns to action with a pair of matches this week with a home-and-away split. Wyoming hosts Colorado State Tuesday evening at 6:30 as part of the Mountain West Tuesday Night Block Party. The Cowgirls then travel to Boise State Thursday, November 7, for a 6 p.m., first serve.
Wyoming (14-8, 6-6 MW) is coming off a split in a pair of home matches last week. The Cowgirls were swept by San Diego State to open the week before responding with a sweep over UNLV Saturday afternoon. Claire Wagstaff and Emma Winter led the Cowgirl offense against the Lady Rebels with 10 kills each. In her first-career action, Wagstaff hit .333 and also had four digs and three total blocks in the win. Kasia Partyka recorded 37 assists in the win and recorded 67 total assists (11.2 per set) for the week.
Defensively, the Cowgirls have a pair of league leaders. Sarah Holcomb continues to lead the league in blocks per set with 1.31 per. Holcomb's 113 total blocks also leads the league and ranks 31st nationally. Sierra Grizzle, meanwhile, leads the conference with 4.23 digs per set. Offensively, Paige Lauterwasser ranks sixth in Mountain West play in both kills (3.66) and points (4.02) per set while she ranks eighth in the conference in those marks in all matches. Partyka's 9.87 assists per set ranks third in the league.
Conference-leading Colorado State leads the Mountain West with a .291 team hitting percentage and with 13.55 kills per set. The Rams also rank second in the league averaging 12.48 assists per set and is fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.202). Individually, Malaya Jones leads the league in both kills (4.41) and points (4.94) per set. Emery Herman leads the conference with 10.51 assists per set while Naeemah Weathers' .426 hitting percentage ranks second-best in the Mountain West.
Boise State enters the week continuing to lead the league in service aces per set with 2.13. The Broncos have the first, second, ninth and 10th ranked student-athletes in the league individually in that category. The Broncos rank in the top-third of the league in most statistical categories this season. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Paige Bartsch is beginning to round into form as she ranks fourth in the league with 3.74 kills per set while her 4.56 points per are second-best in the conference.
