LARAMIE, Wyo. (11/1/24) – The University of Wyoming women's swimming and diving team defeated Northern Colorado on Friday, 160-140.

Head coach Dave Denniston had lots of praise for his team after several Cowgirls put together some impressive individual performances.

"Avery had a breakout day with her swims in the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle. One of the biggest highlights of the day was Maddie scoring a personal-best and placing 3rd for the Cowgirls just behind Ali and Natalie. Tara and Macey continued their winning streaks. Brynlee charging the last 10 meters of the 100 breaststroke to win was perhaps the most exciting race of the night. Heidi and Kayla both scored big points for the Cowgirls in the backstroke events."

Senior Madelynn Appelhans had one of the top performances of her career, scoring a personal best on the 3-meter dive, coming in third with a score of 253.58. The Cowgirls swept the top three in the 3-meter, with Alicia Gonzalez taking first with 291.90 points and Natalie Six coming in second with 270.83 points.

Freshman Avery True also logged her best performance of the season thus far, earning first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.14

Standouts Tara Joyce and Macey Hansen continued to dominate in their respective events. Joyce took first in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle, going 24.33 and 1:54.31 respectively. Hansen swept the duo of distance events once again, with a time of 5:03.89 in the 500-yard freestyle and 10:18.99 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Brynlee Busskohl came in first in the 100-yard breaststroke, going 1:03.99.

Heidi Billings and Kayla Cunningham went 1 and 2 in the 200-yard backstroke, with times of 2:05.07 and 2:05.80 respectively.

The Cowgirls also logged a first-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.20, comprised of Rachael Horne, Lauren Swartz, Emily Burchett and Joyce.

The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team is back in the pool tomorrow at 3 p.m. as the Cowgirls and Cowboys host Air Force at Laramie High School.
