LARAMIE, Wyo. (10/2/24) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team is set to open its regular season at the Front Range Invite hosted by Air Force this Friday and Saturday. The Cowgirls and Cowboys will face off against Air Force, Denver, Colorado State and Northern Colorado.
Wyoming concluded its annual Brown and Gold Meet three weeks ago and looked great to head coach
Dave Denniston. The Pokes have been training at a very high level and are itching to begin racing outside competition in the pool.
"Everyone is feeling really good. We set up the season a little bit different where they had benchmarks that they needed to meet to be able to go to this meet," Denniston said. "Majority of the team has gotten those benchmarks through September, so we're looking forward to going out and racing. I think that the benchmarks created a lot of confidence amongst the team. They look really strong in the water and they're swimming very fast. I think the team is ready to race against some other people and this is a great opportunity for us to do so."
The Front Range Invite will give Denniston and his staff a good real first look at the freshman and newcomers up in a real competition, something they are looking forward to. Additionally, the team has been working on a lot of details around turns and breakouts in the pool and the coaching staff are eager to see how that will be applied during races.
Head dive coach
Mark Murdock has also been pleased with how well diving has been going and is looking forward to seeing how the new divers show off what they can do.
After the Air Force Invite, the Cowgirls will host New Mexico. The women will compete against the Lobos on Saturday, October 19 at Laramie High School with the meet starting at 10 a.m.
