LARAMIE, Wyo. (1/30/24) – The University of Wyoming dive team heads to Colorado Springs this week for the Air Force Diving Invite. The Invite starts Feb. 1 and runs through Feb. 3. The Invitational will be streamed each day on the Air Force Falcons' YouTube channel, and live results will be posted on DiveMeets.com.
"We are trying to get ourselves ready for conference," head diving coach
Mark Murdock said. "This is our first meet we have one board a day that will lead us into platform on the final day. That will prepare us for a long meet but will help us stay focus on one thing each day."
Alicia Gonzalez has been the leader for the dive program this year. She has eight wins on the season, including winning this past weekend in 3-meter and placing fourth in 1-meter at the UNLV tri-meet.
In addition, Gonzalez has been selected as Diver of the Week twice this season by the Mountain West Conference. Her season highs are a 319.65 on the 1-meter at the Northern Colorado Dual Meet and a 309.90 on the 3-meter at the Denver Tri-Meet.
Marnie Howard has also been productive for the Cowgirls. Howard's best outing in 1-meter was a 264.75 and on 3-meter it was a 292.73 during the same dual against Northern Colorado.
Wrapping up the top three this year for the women's dive team is
Natalie Six and
Nettie Knapton. Six sits at No. 3 on the squad this year on 1-meter with the score of 263.78 and Knapton is No. 3 on 3-meter with the score of 280.05.
On the Cowboys' side, freshman
Bruno Grau has led the way. He scored career highs in both the 1-meter at 275.55 and the 3-meter at 290.40 at the Colorado Mesa Dual Meet in Laramie on Nov. 3.
Following the Air Force Diving Invite is the Mountain West Conference championships in Houston, Texas on February 21 through 24 and Western Athletic Conference championships in Pharr, Texas on February 28 through March 2.
