LARAMIE, Wyo. (1/30/24) – The University of Wyoming will have a former student-athlete playing in upcoming Super Bowl LVIII. Tashaun Gipson and the San Francisco 49ers will battle the reigning Super Bowl champion, Kansas City Chiefs, in Las Vegas on Feb. 11.

Tashaun Gipson, San Francisco 49ers

Gipson not only started San Francisco's NFC Championship game against Detroit, but he played a large role in the 49ers rallying for the 34-31 victory. Gipson forced a fumble midway through the third quarter that set up a touchdown that was part of 27 consecutive points scored by San Francisco. It helped erase a 24-7 deficit.

In addition to the forced turnover, Gipson boasted six tackles and one pass break up. He now has 69 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, three passes defended and one quarterback hit on the season after starting in every single game of consequence for the 49ers.

This will mark Gipson's first-ever Super Bowl appearance. He's aiming on becoming the first former Poke to win a Super Bowl since Jacob Hollister did as a member of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII. Logan Wilson stands as the last former Wyoming player to participate in a Super Bowl, competing for the Cincinnati Bengals during Super Bowl LVI.
