LARAMIE, Wyo. (1/24/23) – The University of Wyoming men's and women's swimming and diving team head to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a two-day tri-meet against UNLV and UC Santa Barbara inside Jim Reitz Pool. The meet kicks off Friday with swimming at 6:00 p.m. and diving at 9:00 p.m., while Saturday gets underway at 11:00 a.m.

"It's our final tune up before we go to the Mountain West Championships against our conference foes," head coach Dave Denniston said. "Our women are in a position to stay undefeated in the Mountain West, and it would cap off an undefeated season, and that's a big goal our women are looking forward to."

Wyoming's women's team enters the meet with a 7-1 overall record and 3-0 Mountain West mark. The team is coming off an away dual meet win against conference opponent, New Mexico, where the Cowgirls won 13 of 16 events.

Included in those 13 wins were five sweeps. The first came in the 200-yard freestyle with Carly Palmer finishing first, Kylee Theiler taking second, and Maisyn Klimczak touching third. The Cowgirls went on to sweep the 100-yard breaststroke with Brynlee Busskohl topping the field, Lauren Swartz claiming second, and Rachael Horne finishing third. Wyoming also swept the 200-yard butterfly with Katie Ford finishing first, Emily Burchett touching second, and Sophie Nutter taking third.

In a fourth sweep, Tessa Bendokas took first in the 200-yard backstroke. Kayla Cunningham touched second, and Ellie Fritscher finished third. In the fifth and final sweep, Tara Joyce led the way in the 50-yard freestyle. She was followed by Britt Nichols and Theiler.

On the men's side, the Cowboys enter the meet against the Rebels and Gauchos with a 3-3 overall record and a 1-0 conference record. They are coming off a loss against University of Utah, 158-96.

Highlights of the Green River meet included a sweep of the 100-yard butterfly with Gavin Smith touching first, followed by Preston Harrison claiming second, and Reilly Gilbert taking third. The Pokes also swept the 400-yard individual medley with Charlie Clark taking first, Drew Ravegum touching second, and Luke Walker finishing third.

Clark also won the 1000-yard freestyle, and the Pokes relay teams performed a one-two punch taking first and second in the 200-
yard freestyle relay.

UNLV men enter the meet with a 1-3 record, and their women come in at 2-3. UC Santa Barbara women own a 2-0 record, and their men are 4-1.

After this meet, Wyoming remains on the road heading to University of Denver for the First-Chance Meet from Feb. 9-10.
