LARAMIE, Wyo. (9/8/23) – A portion of the University of Wyoming swim team will begin competition this weekend. A total of 14 swimmers are slated to participate in the Horsetooth Open Water Swim at Horestooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, Colorado.

"The Horsetooth race is a fun way to kick off the season for our distance swimmers and for those who just love to swim without flip turns," head coach Dave Denniston said.

The collegiate race begins at 7 a.m. The course traverses 2.4 miles of water.

Wyoming was scheduled to take part in this event last season, however, the water temperature was too low. That means this will mark the first time since 2021 that UW has participated in the open water swim.

"We are sending 14 swimmers that should place very well in the collegiate race," Denniston said. "Charlie Clark is swimming extremely well, and Caleb Ozenne is coming off a great summer. On the women's side, our distance women are just tough and any of them could win the race."

The entire roster commences their season in a couple weeks. Wyoming hosts its annual Brown and Gold Meet on Sept. 29 at Corbett Pool.
