LARAMIE, Wyo. (9/12/23) – The first week of the 2023 National Football League season is in the books. Many former University of Wyoming football players helped their respective teams earn a Week 1 victory.
Below is a list of the former Cowpokes and where they're at now and what they accomplished in the opening week.
Carl Granderson, New Orleans Saints
Granderson – who's in Year 5 with the Saints – helped New Orleans log a 16-15 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. Granderson recorded four tackles, 1.5 sacks and one tackle for loss. Granderson's 1.5 sacks matched a career high that he set last season against Tampa Bay.
The Saints travel to Carolina in Week 2's Monday Night Football.
Marcus Epps, Las Vegas Raiders
Epps – who's in his first year with Las Vegas – helped the Raiders spring a road win at Denver, 17-16. Epps recorded five tackles and one tackle for loss.
The Raiders travel to Buffalo in Week 2.
Tashaun Gipson, San Francisco 49ers
Gipson – the longest-tenured former Poke who's in Year 12 overall and second with the 49ers – helped San Francisco score a lopsided 30-7 win at Pittsburgh on Sunday. Gipson registered two tackles.
San Francisco travels to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.
Logan Wilson, Cincinnati Bengals
Wilson – who's in Year 4 with the Bengals – was a busy man Sunday in Cincinnati's 24-3 loss at Cleveland. He was third on the team in tackles with eight and had one tackle for loss.
The Bengals host Baltimore in Week 2.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Allen – who's in Year 6 with the Bills – struggled in Buffalo's 22-16 overtime loss at the New York Jets on Monday. He was 29-for-41 for 236 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Bills host Las Vegas in Week 2.
Andrew Wingard, Jacksonville Jaguars
Wingard – who's in Year 5 with the Jaguars – didn't record a stat in Jacksonville's 31-21 at Indianapolis on Sunday.
The Jaguars host Kansas City in Week 2.
Chad Muma, Jacksonville Jaguars
Muma – who's in his second year with the Jaguars – didn't record a stat in Jacksonville's 31-21 win at Indianapolis on Sunday.
The Jaguars host Kansas City in Week 2.
Mike Purcell, Denver Broncos
Purcell – who's in Year 5 with the Broncos – logged one tackle and a quarterback hit in Denver's 17-16 home loss to Las Vegas.
The Broncos host Washington in Week 2.
Tyler Hall, Las Vegas Raiders
Hall – who's in Year 3 with the Raiders – didn't play in Las Vegas' 17-16 win at Denver. He currently has DEV status.
The Raiders travel to Buffalo in Week 2.
