LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Cross Country teams will welcome student-athletes from seven programs across the Front Range to Cheyenne, Wyo., on Saturday September 2nd at Little America for the Wyoming Invite.
The Pokes and teams from Colorado State, Texas Tech, Northern Colorado, South Dakota School of Mines, Chadron, Central Wyoming CC, Colorado Mountain College will compete in a 5K with the women running at 9am and the men to follow at 9:30.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls both welcome back four of their top five finishers from last years Mountain West Championships and look to get back into competition in their home state. Head Cross Country Coach Scott Dahlberg said, "We love hosting a meet in Wyoming and the support we get for the race. It's a good race to knock the rust off and see where we're at, but it's also great to connect with the community when the remainder of our competitions will be out of the region."
The 5K loop runs through the Little America Golf Course and will be open to spectators and the public on Saturday morning.
Both the men and women were picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West Conference Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's coaches and released by the conference on Thursday August 24th. The men rank eighth in the first USTFCCCA Mountain Region poll of the season, one spot behind CSU while the women sit in 10th, five spots behind the CSU women who rank No. 26 in the country.
