LARAMIE, Wyo. (4/13/23) – The Western Athletic Conference announced its Academic All-Conference list Thursday. A collection of 15 University of Wyoming student-athletes were honored.
Jakob Borrman,
Daniel Cumnock-Francois,
Quinn Cynor,
Reilly Gilbert,
Matt Lang,
Payton Lee,
David Mihalic,
Robert Mitchell, Cam Murphy,
Jack O'Neil,
Grant Sloan,
Gavin Smith,
Sam Stuckey,
Quinn Teller and
Harry Tjaden were recognized for their efforts. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must have completed one academic year, possess a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's meets this past season.
The aforementioned list showcases a balanced swimmer or diver that got it done both in the pool and in the classroom. Some of them excelled in competition with multiple accolades at the conference championship meet in February.
Cynor led the way, winning three All-WAC honors and one of those was a conference title in the 200-yard butterfly. Sloan, Smith and Teller all reeled in a pair of All-WAC accolades, while Smith also posted a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly. Gilbert, Lee, Mihalic and Tjaden earned one All-WAC honor apiece.
The list of honorees will lengthen later this spring. The conference will release a second batch of student-athletes, featuring freshmen that completed their first year of academics.
