COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 29, 2023) – For the first time in her career, Violetta Borodina was named the Mountain West's Tennis Freshman of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office. Borodina becomes the first Cowgirl to earn a player of the week honor this season from the conference.
Last week, Borodina helped Wyoming to a pair of top-70 victories as they defeated then-No. 42 Colorado State, 4-1 before rallying to defeat 67th-ranked Fresno State, 4-3. Borodina capped a run of four consecutive singles wins by the Cowgirls to comeback against the Bulldogs. Borodina's clinching win came in thrilling fashion as she won a slugfest, 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (10-8).
Against the Rams, Borodina was on the verge of winning her singles match as well before it was called due to Wyoming clinching the team victory. In doubles play, Borodina and her partner, Maria Oreshkina ran their winning streak to seven straight, thanks to a 6-3 win against Colorado State and a blanking of Fresno, 6-0.
Borodina and the rest of the Cowgirls travel to Fort Collins this weekend for a pair of neutral-site matchups. UW will face Nevada Saturday and San Jose State Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.
