PHARR, Texas (2/25/23) – Quinn Cynor had a thrill for the dramatic Saturday night during the final day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The University of Wyoming swimmer rallied for a conference title in the 200-yard butterfly inside the City of Pharr Natatorium.
Cynor's performance – registering a time of 1:44.30 – was one of many strong ones over the four-day meet, as Wyoming finished fourth as a team, accumulating 545.5 points. UNLV won with 838 points, while Grand Canyon and Cal Baptist rounded out the top three with 627.5 and 565 points, respectively.
"We had more podium finishes this meet than in any time in recent memory," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "Nearly 70 percent of the swims were lifetime-best times by our team.
Quinn Cynor dominated the 200 fly with the rest of our guys to win.
Charlie Clark also swam a tough mile to earn silver. Our young athletes really stepped up, and the future looks bright for the Cowboys."
Cynor had plenty of friendly company on the 200-butterfly podium.
Harry Tjaden placed fourth after recording a time of 1:47.00, and
Gavin Smith was right on his heels in fifth at 1:47.03.
As mentioned,
Charlie Clark enjoyed a great swim, taking runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle, clocking in at 15:20.86.
Caleb Ozenne wasn't far behind at fourth in a time of 15:28.10.
The 200-yard backstroke was also littered with Cowboys.
Collin Davis led the grouping, touching six at 1:48.04, while
Luke Walker and Ozenne checked in at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, with times of 1:48.75 and 1:54.52.
Payton Lee capped the podium placers. He took seventh in platform with a final tally of 254.60.
Wyoming's season continues at the Zone E Diving Meet from March 6-8.
